Edgewood in the Community

MADISON — Edgewood High School (EHS) is built on a foundation of Catholic service to the community.

On a recent Wednesday, the entire EHS community — including students, faculty and staff, and parents — put down the books for a day of volunteering during the 20th annual Edgewood in the Community Day.

Opportunity to connect

This service day jump-starts students’ excitement for the school’s mission to serve and gives them an early opportunity to connect with work and organizations they may serve in the future.

St. Dennis welcomes ‘trailblazer of forgiveness’ for fall mission

MADISON — On Sunday, Nov. 5, St. Dennis Parish will welcome Dr. Robert Enright to present the parish’s fall mission: “The Church as a Forgiving Community.”

As the founder of the International Forgiveness Institute here in Madison, Dr. Enright has been referred to as the “trailblazer of forgiveness” by Time Magazine.

An educational psychologist by training, he has built a 30-year academic career committed to researching and implementing forgiveness programs and curricula.

Society to hear talk on restorative justice

MADISON — Ron Johnson, coordinator of the Dane County Community Restorative Court, will be the guest speaker of the St. Thomas More Society meeting on Friday, April 21, at 7:30 a.m., at St. Patrick Church Hall, 404 E. Main St.

The public is welcome. Bring a friend or colleague. There is no charge.

Johnson, originally from Milwaukee, is a former teacher and principal, as well as a father of seven. His career includes working with programs that address gang prevention and intervention, youth violence, youth development, and employment.

The family as forgiving community: leaving legacy of love to future generations

It is so special that the Second Vatican Council referred to the family as “the domestic church” (Lumen Gentium #11).

On the Feast of the Annunciation this year (March 25), Pope Francis, in a talk to 27 heads of government, stated, “Europe finds new hope when she . . . invests in the family, which is the first and fundamental cell of society.”

Family: crossroads of our legacy

According to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, it is in the family that children learn to love.

It is so sad that the family also is the first place where too many children (and adults) learn conflict and division and discord.

MADISON — The Catholic Multicultural Center (CMC) will host its fourth annual community block party Saturday, Aug. 13, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The CMC coordinates the block party to offer area families a free summer event to enjoy, to bring people together, and to celebrate multicultural unity.
