Queen of Peace Parish to hold special needs celebration

MADISON — Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish, 401 S. Owen Dr., will host a panel discussion and entitled “All Together Now! Celebrating and supporting those with special needs” on Wednesday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m.

Vicky Franchino, parishioner at Queen of Peace, said, “Please join us for an evening of fellowship and conversation as we come together to learn and connect during National Disabilities Awareness Month. Our evening will begin with brief presentations, followed by an audience Q&A. All are welcome!”

It brought tears to my eyes the first time I saw it. And I probably had to rub my eyes on subsequent times. It always amazed me.

What I’m talking about is the Offertory procession at the Christmas and Easter Masses for the handicapped held for many years at Monroe High School. What happens is about two dozen young men — many of them large football and basketball players — each come up paired with a disabled or elderly person.

WISCONSIN DELLS — The Apostolate to the Handicapped held its annual “Day in the Dells” on August 20 on the beautiful Tommy Bartlett grounds, where Mass was celebrated with many priests from the diocese participating, and which included a both humorous and touching homily by program icon Msgr. Thomas F. Campion.
