Work together to keep government open

President Donald Trump announced on Friday, Jan. 25, that he would grant a temporary, three-week reopening of the federal government, even without a deal for border wall funding.

He signed a bill to reopen the government until February 15 and promised that federal employees would receive their backpay “very quickly.”

I was happy to hear that the federal government was reopening, but this doesn’t mean we won’t face a shut-down again in the future. We have to do something to get our government back on track permanently.

Concerned about federal government spending

To the editor:

The federal government continues to recklessly squander away our tax dollars, leaving future generations to pick up the tab for the irresponsible spending of today. This is infuriating! Our hard-earned money is treated with contempt, and I am very concerned that this practice is leading to the death of the greatest economic system in the history of the world.

Vice President Joe Biden said that to avoid bankruptcy the government must spend MORE money! What is he thinking?! Sadly, this view seems to be shared by a majority of our elected officials.
