West Dane Catholic women to meet October 16
MARTINSVILLE — All are welcome to attend the fall West Dane Vicariate Council of Catholic Women (CCW) conference to be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 16, hosted by St Martin of Tours Parish CCW at the church and parish center. The theme is “Soup for the Soul.”
Alice Bannier, co-president of the St. Martin of Tours CCW, said all ages are invited to hear Dr. Taysheedra Noll speak on the Women’s Place and Resource Center in De Forest, a new nonprofit center that offers women services that will allow them to become assets to the community. Its mission is “A place where women can come post crisis and receive spiritual, personal, and professional development with the intention of improving their life situations.”Father Schroeder leaves diocese to work at Vatican

Teens from four parishes come together to experience ‘virtue’ in Middleton
MIDDLETON — There’s a welcome sight once a week at the 8:15 a.m. daily Mass at St. Bernard Church in Middleton.
About 15 to 20 Middleton High School students take advantage of a late-start day to go to Mass and have breakfast together.
It’s one of many activities in the Cardinal Virtue youth apostolate for high school students in the Middleton area. It’s a joint effort by four parishes: St. Bernard in Middleton, St. Francis Xavier in Cross Plains, St. Peter in Ashton, and St. Martin of Tours in Martinsville.
Catholic Knights presents matching gift to house build
Representatives of the Catholic Knights Insurance Society, Ashton-Middleton Branch 280, presented a $1,000 gift from the Catholic Knights National Insurance Company.
Parish cluster to sponsor and build home
MADISON — For the first time, a cluster of Madison area Catholic parishes is sponsoring and building a home with Habitat for Humanity of Dane County.
The parishes of St. Bernard, Middleton; St. Martin of Tours, Martinsville; St. Peter, Ashton; and St. Thomas Aquinas, Madison, will sponsor the project. Construction is expected to begin in the Spring of 2010.
“While many Catholics have been involved in Habitat for Humanity projects, this will be the first all-Catholic build in the state of Wisconsin,” noted building co-chair Wendy Hansen.
“With the leadership of St. Bernard’s Church, our cluster will make history. Thankfully, we have the good will of the people, the energy, and the God-given talent and treasure to do this wonderful project.”
