‘Theology of the Body’ program series offered

On October 28, 2010October 15, 2024
--

MADISON — “rEVOLution (of Love)” will offer teens in the Diocese of Madison a chance to explore Pope John Paul II’s Theology of the Body through a series of three panel discussions and question and answer periods at churches in the Madison area.

Fr. Eric Sternberg to speak on Nov. 14

OREGON — Youth in the Diocese of Madison are invited to explore Pope John Paul II’s “Theology of the Body” at a talk by Fr. Eric Sternberg on Sunday, Nov. 14, at Holy Mother of Consolation Parish in Oregon from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

The first in a series of talks for teens on Theology of the Body, Father Sternberg will discuss what it means for a teen to embrace God’s call to holiness and become the person that God intended.

Father Sternberg will give some helpful hints on how one can recognize that each were made for holiness and how everyone can touch that holiness each and every day of their lives.

The talk is open to high school students and parents are encouraged to attend. For more information, contact Andy Galvin at 608-821-4517.

Teresa Tomeo, a nationally known Catholic journalist, is coming to Madison for the last talk of the series on April 3.

The talks are aimed at sharing Theology of the Body with youth, although parents are invited and encouraged to attend, listen, and engage in the discussion.

The dates of the of the series are:

  • Sunday, Nov. 14, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Holy Mother of Consolation Church, Oregon
  • Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at St. Andrew Church, Verona
  • Sunday, April 3, 2011, from 6 to 8:30 p.m., at St. Maria Goretti Church, Madison.  This final session will include separate presentations by Tomeo for teens and for parents.

“We have a wonderful line-up of speakers who are living out the Theology of the Body and have a gift for connecting with young people,” said Andy Galvin, an organizer of the series.

“Married couples, both new and old, a young priest, and a nationally known media expert are all coming to talk to teens about how to live out our Catholic faith in the world today.”

“In a culture that talks to teens incessantly about being fulfilled through a social network, the latest gadget, and the coolest clothes, the Catholic Church has a very different message,” said Sarabeth Bowe, youth minister at Christ the King Parish in McFarland, one of the event’s sponsors. “The world’s message leads teens to a lot of pressure, confusion, and heartache, and it’s the Church’s message that is truly a “revolution of love” and fulfills human hearts, so it’s a message we need to share,” said Bowe.

There is no cost for any of the talks, though free-will offerings will be taken.

The events are sponsored by the Diocese of Madison; Christ the King Parish, McFarland; St. John the Baptist Parish, Jefferson; the host parishes; and St. Patrick Parish, Lodi.  For more information, contact Andy Galvin at 608-821-4517.
