Vigil for Life to respond peacefully in vigil outside abortion ‘celebration’

On September 1, 2016
Kevin Wondrash

MADISON — Pro-abortion groups across the country — including NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin and other local pro-abortion groups — will be celebrating abortion with a star-studded All Access evening of “music, comedy, and entertainment” on Saturday, Sept. 10.

NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin, Wisconsin Women’s Network, and the Women’s Medical Fund will host a live-streaming of the main event in Cleveland, Ohio, at Steenbock’s On Orchard, 330 N. Orchard St., in downtown Madison.

According to the event information, the Cleveland event will feature performances from Grammy-nominated artist Sia, standup from Saturday Night Live cast member and Ghostbusters star Leslie Jones, and Grammy award-winning singer Natalia Lafourcade, with Comedy Central’s Jessica Williams as the host. This free Madison event will offer live streaming of this main event along with food and drinks.

In response, Madison Vigil for Life will hold a peaceful, prayerful protest on the sidewalk in front of Steenbock’s before, during, and after the event from 5:30 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10.

“Abortion is not a laughing matter, especially when you consider the 1.2 million lives lost nationally and the 4,000 lives lost in Wisconsin through abortion EACH year. It is not a laughing matter for the post-abortive women and men who struggle with serious physical and psychological consequences from abortion,” said Laura Karlen, Madison Vigil for Life board president. “I’m shocked at how these pro-abortion groups are eager to trivialize human life with this tasteless event.”

Vigil for Life is a pro-life volunteer group that has peacefully kept vigil in front of Planned Parenthood every business day since January 2011.
