Women vicariate meetings in Diocese of Madison

On September 10, 2014
Chris Lee

MADISON — Women of the diocese are invited to fall vicariate meetings scheduled at parishes in Spring Green and Jefferson, Sept. 18; Berlin, Oct. 14; Bloomington, Oct. 16; and Pine Bluff, Oct. 22.

Rosa Roper, president of the Madison Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (MDCCW) encourages women to take advantage of these meetings to connect with other Catholic women in their area. The half-day meetings offer prayer, socializing, and service and fit into her theme as president: “Live, Learn, Love, and Share Our Catholic Faith.”

Women may join MDCCW individually if their parish isn’t affiliated with the council. Membership information is at mdccw.com

Spring Green

St. John the Evangelist Council of Catholic Women is hosting the Sauk Vicariate meeting Thursday, Sept. 18, at the church, 129 W. Daley St. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. with opening prayer and business meeting at 9 a.m. The theme is “Helping Hands in Faith.”

The program at 10 a.m. features Jean Alt and Sara Young talking about 4PeteSake, a volunteer group that raises money to help recipients in a way that “can substantially change their circumstances and impact their quality of life.” Its first recipient was Pete, a 20-year-old cancer survivor with an above-the-knee amputation, whose insurance wouldn’t pay for a new generation prosthetic that would enable him to thrive. The group raised $50,000 and since then has provided hundreds of thousands of dollars to other recipients through community events, including an annual A Day in the Park in Spring Green.

Fr. Larry Bowens, MDCCW spiritual advisor, Lime Ridge, will celebrate Mass at 11 a.m. with attending priests. Lunch follows in the parish hall, along with prize drawings. Registration is due Sept. 11 to Bonnie Richardson, E4790 Kennedy Rd., Spring Green 53588, or phone 608-588-2349. Cost is $10.

Jefferson

St. Francis of Assisi CCW is hosting the fall vicariate meeting Thursday, Sept. 18, starting with registration at 4:45 p.m. Rosary follows at 5:10 p.m. and Mass at 5:30 p.m. celebrated by Msgr. Duane Moellenberndt, MDCCW spiritual advisor, Sun Prairie, and attending priests.

With the theme of “Catholic Charities at Work,” the program following dinner will feature speakers talking about the 30 plus programs that serve the faith communities in the diocese.

Cost is $13. To register, call Linda Rosiejka at 608-674-5223 or Dorene Shuda at 920-674-3649. A special collection will be taken for the St. Joseph Seminarian Fund.
