To the editor:
I wholeheartedly agree with Fr. Jim Murphy’s December letter that Catholics should not participate in the U.S. military when it is fighting an unjust war in Iraq.
I would add that the present Israeli-Palestinian conflict should also give Catholics more reason to not support the military. This is because American weapons are being used by our Israeli friends to attack Gaza, killing innocent adults and children. All Christians should demand that our taxes not support the building and sale of weapons to other countries that then use them to inflict civilian casualties.
Furthermore, we need to warn countries that are supplying missiles and missile parts to the Palestinians that this, too, will not be tolerated.
