Church needs to reach out with love to teenagers

On February 10, 2011
Jordan Bartholf

To the editor:

Being a Catholic teenager is one of the hardest things to do. In this day and age believing in God is thought of as a disease. People make fun of Catholic beliefs and it is getting out of hand.

I am lucky enough to have amazing friends who support me in my faith, but so many others are afraid of showing theirs for fear of rejection.

I go to Bible studies and other Confirmation classes. A few of the teenagers in there care, but the greater majority sits in the back uninterested. This is one of the saddest sights for me.

If teenagers had more opportunities to grow in their faith, they could grow stronger and share their beliefs. Back in December I skipped my lunch during school so that I could attend Adoration. Now I personally have no problems going out of my way for God, but other people may.

The Church needs to reach out to its teens and bring them in with warmth and love.
