What divides us is more than unites us

On November 22, 2017
Karen Wasserburger

To the editor:

In regard to the article, on the Lutheran-Catholic service held in Madison, it’s a disservice to lead people to believe that outside of the sacraments of the Catholic Church we are united. Love and unity comes from the source of the sacraments who “IS” Jesus Christ Himself. For this reason, “what divides us is by far more than what unites us.”

Division does not come from a lack of love by Catholics for others, it comes from Catholic love of truth . . . and those who desire to change truth. This is fundamentally the reason for division.

I hope the “seed for future work” consists of helping people who are baptized outside of the Catholic Church understand what they are missing. And to encourage them to look over true history to see that their Christian faith was founded on a “revolt” of the Catholic Church, not a “reformation”. Reformation came from the saints who stayed within the church and followed truth, and not those who rejected truth for personal preference and opinion.

Karen Wasserburger, Boscobel
