Callin’ y’all to a Roundup Square Dance

STOUGHTON — All married couples are invited to a Roundup Square Dance sponsored by Worldwide Marriage Encounter in the Madison community on Saturday, May 9, at 6:30 p.m. in the St. Ann gym, 323 N. Van Buren St.

There is a 5:15 p.m. Mass for those who wish to attend beforehand. A potluck dinner and drinks will be followed by two hours of square dancing guided by an official caller.

Parish holds Gift and Plant Fair

STOUGHTON — St. Ann Parish will hold a Spring Fever Gift and Plant Fair on Saturday, May 2, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at 324 N. Harrison St. Proceeds will help defray expenses for parish youth who are making a mission trip to Logan, W. Va., this summer.

Over 30 vendors will have hand-crafted jewelry, knit and fabric arts, straw baskets, African artifacts, stained glass and suncatchers, cards and signs, food and drink baskets, sewn and knitted baby/children/adult items, kitchen towels and accessories, cardigans and sweatshirts, and home décor.

Chief of police speaks to Catholic attorneys

MADISON — Michael C. Koval, chief of police of Madison, brings an interesting skill set to speak to Catholic attorneys at the St. Thomas More Society meeting on Friday, May 1, at 7:30 a.m. at St. Patrick Church, 404 E. Main St.

Koval holds a journalism degree from UW-Madison and a law degree from William Mitchell College of Law. He will speak on “Law Enforcement and Lawyers.”

Mass planned at historic church in Highland

HIGHLAND — The St. Philip Preservation Association invites everyone to the second annual gathering to help continue the historical legacy of St. Philip Church, 726 Main St., on Sunday, May 3.

Christopher West will speak to students on a ‘new sexual revolution’

MADISON — Christopher West, globally recognized as a leading chastity speaker and author, will speak to University of Wisconsin-Madison’s students Thursday, April 23, at 7:15 p.m., at St. Paul University Catholic Center, 723 State St.

Badger Catholic invites all students and their friends to join the organization’s speaker event, “What is Love? A New Sexual Revolution.”

During the event, students will have the opportunity to learn more about “Theology of the Body,” a bold, biblical vision of love and sexuality written by St. John Paul II.

St. Thomas Aquinas Parish hosts Family Fun(d) Night: ‘Heads, Shoulders, Kneelers, Toes’

MADISON — St. Thomas Aquinas Parish will host a Family Fun(d) Night, “Heads, Shoulders, Kneelers, Toes,” on Saturday, May 2, beginning after the 4:30 p.m. Mass in the social hall and gathering area, 602 Everglade Dr. This family-centered event will help to raise funds to purchase new kneelers for the church.

Tickets are $15 per person, $25 a couple, or $40 for families with parents and children under 18 years of age.

Undoing a chemical abortion

In 1978, Charles E. Rice, a former professor of law at Notre Dame Law School made this prediction in his book Beyond Abortion: The Theory and Practice:

“The abortion of the future will be by pill, suppository, or some other do-it-yourself method. At that point the killing of a baby will be wholly elective and private. We have, finally, caught up with the pagan Romans who endowed the father, the pater familias, with the right to kill his child at his discretion. We give that right to the mother. But it is all the same to the victim.”
