Bishop Barron’s comments on Luther found ‘confusing, disturbing’

To the editor:

This letter is in response to Bishop Robert Barron’s article, “Looking at Luther with Fresh Eyes,” in your June 29, 2017 issue.

Bishop Barron’s comments, based on a book he had read on Martin Luther, were confusing and disturbing. In the article’s descriptions of Luther’s “experience of grace,” his “love affair,” and his “ecstatic experience,” the seriousness of Luther’s harmful effect on countless souls was minimized. Bishop Barron even seemed to conclude that both the criticism and the celebration of Luther’s solas could simultaneously be appropriate, thus helping to pave the way for ecumenism.

Praise for St. Ambrose graduation speech

To the editor:

This is the first time I have ever responded to an article in the Catholic Herald.

The copy of the words spoken by Justin Hineline, made at his graduation ceremony from St. Ambrose Academy, makes me feel great about the future of our country.

Our Lady has shown us what to do to save ourselves

To the editor:

Thank you for your pictorial report on the Fatima rallies attended on Saturday, May 13, in some diocesan parishes. Thank you to all the parishioners who attended these rallies.

How is it that we can spend money, large parts of our days on sports events, TV, and electronic devices, but only 50 or fewer individuals could find an hour or less to honor Our Lady on the 100th anniversary of her first apparition at Fatima?

Thanks for support of fish fries, especially Good Friday dinner

To the editor:

On behalf of Our Lady of the Assumption (OLA) Parish, I would like to thank everyone who supported our fish fries this past season.

In particular, we would like to thank those who attended and supported the Good Friday fish dinner.  That night we served over 325 individuals and families, some of whom may not have had a good meal that day without your donations.

Support bipartisan effort addressing climate change

To the editor:

I was excited to see that House Republicans have submitted a resolution to address Climate Change (H. Res 195) and important Catholic voices have expressed their support and gratitude.

For the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), Bishop Frank Dewane of Venice, Fla., and Bishop Oscar Cantu of Las Cruces, N.M., each chairs of USCCB Committees, welcomed the commitment of these legislators to address the challenge of climate change.

We must respond to assaults in Syria

To the editor:

The latest assault on civilians in Idlib province in Syria shows a brash disregard for the most vulnerable.

How can we spend our time and resources on the latest fashions or sporting events while all over the world innocent children and families suffer unimaginable hardship in in their own countries?

April 4 election important to kids

To the editor:

My husband and I  have been blessed to be able to homeschool our four children and also to send them to Catholic schools for their upper grades. We have tried to  provide them with a morally and spiritually safe place where they would grow up to be compassionate and confident individuals ready to serve with their talents when they graduate.

Liked article about hormone disruptors

To the editor:

I read with amazement Vicki Braun’s piece about hormone disruptors. I wish it were a lot longer for all the information that is concentrated in her work.

No objection to putting hold on immigration until we regain control

To the editor:

I am practicing Catholic member of a parish in the Diocese of Madison.

I am taken aback at the position taken by the Wisconsin Catholic Conference regarding the president’s hold on immigration.

I cannot understand why there is a problem with knowing who is entering the country. Period.
