Liturgy and social doctrine courses offered

MADISON — The Diocese of Madison is offering two series of courses on both the liturgical year and the Social Doctrine of the Church in the coming months.

Study of liturgical year

A comprehensive study on the liturgical year is being offered by Abbot Marcel Rooney through the Seat of Wisdom Diocesan Institute.

Remaining sessions are open to everyone and will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the Bishop O’Connor Catholic Pastoral Center, 702 S. High Point Rd., on the following Saturday mornings.

 

Each session is $7 for those able to pay.

 

  • January 25: “The Liturgical Year — Ordinary Time: The Church formed by prayer”
  • February 22: “The Liturgical Year — Lent: The Church called to conversion and transfiguration”
  • March 22: “The Liturgical Year — Holy Week: The Church formed by the Paschal Mystery”
  • April 26: “The Liturgical Year — Easter: The Church receives risen life in the Risen Christ”
  • May 17: “The Liturgical Year — Easter and Pentecost: The Church receives risen life in the Holy Spirit”

Study of social doctrine

The Office of Evangelization and Catechesis is sponsoring two courses on Catholic social doctrine taught by Dr. Constance Nielsen.

The introductory course is being offered at the following locations and is available for local programming at the request of parishes or schools:

  • Lancaster, St. Clement Parish: February 8, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Beloit, Our Lady of Assumption Parish: February 11, 18, and 25, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
  • Waunakee, St. John the Baptist Parish: March 4, 11, and 18, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The in-depth course is being offered at the Bishop O’Connor Center one Saturday per month throughout the academic year.

Remaining dates for the in-depth course include January 25, February 22, March, 22, April 26, and May 17.
