JEFFERSON — Two Catholic parish communities gathered at St. John the Baptist Church in Jefferson on a recent afternoon for a celebratory Mass and dedication of the Sacred Heart Mosaic in honor of Treyton Kilar.

Students from both parish schools gathered for the Mass and dedication of the mosaic, a gift from St. Joseph Catholic Parish and School community, Fort Atkinson.

Treyton Kilar, six years old, was killed by a drunk driver September 2, 2010. He loved life, his family, friends, faith, and baseball.

Fr. Tom Coyle, St. John’s pastor, and Fr. Jay Poster, St. Joseph pastor, celebrated the Mass and mosaic dedication.

Father Coyle devoted a number of his sermon comments to the youth and their importance to the life within their respective communities.

St. Joseph Principal Dave Podmolik made the formal presentation on behalf of St. Joseph students and parish community members to Treyton’s parents, Mary and Mike Kilar. The mosaic will be on permanent display in St. John the Baptist School.

Both parish communities have experienced losses of children and young adults in recent months.

The mosaic was assembled at the same time that the Follow Me mosaic was constructed for the St. Joseph School entry.

Treyton’s love of baseball has inspired his family to keep his memory alive through an effort to build a 225-foot, youth-sized field, “Treyton’s Field of Dreams,” in Starin Park, Whitewater.
