Sr. Kathleen Malone, OP, to retire after 35 years

On April 14, 2016
Chris Lee

MADISON — Sr. Kathleen Malone, OP, the president/principal of Edgewood Campus School (ECS), will retire at the end of the 2015 to 2016 school year.

Throughout her career, Sister Kathleen has taught every grade from one to eight. During her 35 years at ECS, she taught grades six, seven, and eight and served as principal/president twice, most recently since 2004.

Her accomplishments

Her skills in hiring and mentoring have provided a school community that lives Dominican values and provides an excellent education in a nurturing environment of love and acceptance.

She has supervised fundraising, building construction, renovation and maintenance projects.

Collaboration with the presidents of Edgewood High School and Edgewood College on Campus Master Planning with the neighborhood associations has been instrumental in the growth of the campus.

During her many years of service, Sister Kathleen shared her expertise on numerous boards and with many organizations. There were countless benefits to these institutions realized by her knowledge of education, budgets, management, and finance.

Her real service, however, lies in the impact she has had on countless students both in the USA and in Tanzania, Africa, where Edgewood Campus School helped the Sisters of St. Thérèse of Lisieux build a grade school that now educates over 700 students.

Honoring Sister Kathleen

To honor Sister Kathleen for her years of devotion, friends and current students and their families, as well as former students, parents, grandparents, board members, and alumni are invited to join the celebration by sending cards of congratulations.

In addition, Edgewood Campus School has established an endowment fund in her name. Interest or dividends generated by the funds in this account will be directed toward student financial aid.

Cards and donations to the Sister Kathleen Malone, OP, Endowment Fund can be sent to Sr. Kathleen Malone, OP, Edgewood Campus School, 829 Edgewood College Dr., Madison, WI 53711.

A picnic is also planned to celebrate with Sister Kathleen on Tuesday, May 24, at the Vilas Park Shelter, 1602 Vilas Park Dr. (off Monroe St.) from 5 to 8 p.m. All are welcome.

People are asked to bring a dish to pass and RSVP by May 20 by calling 608-663-4100.
