Marie Loring

Madison — Marie Loring, age 94, died on Friday, March 22, 2013. She was born June 12, 1918, at rural Platteville, the daughter of Matt and Josephine (Siepker) Loring, the oldest of their ten children. She graduated from Rewey High School in 1936 and Madison Business College in 1938. For 30 years she worked at Security State Bank in Madison, which later became Chase Bank.

She was a member of the American Institute of Banking, and in 1951 was elected the first female President of the Dane County Chapter. In the early fifties, she became a member of the Schoenstatt Movement, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Throughout the years, she was also involved in many charitable and civic causes, including working at the Madison elections for over 31 years.

She is survived by her special nephew, Kevin Loring, whom she raised; Bernadine (Emil) Lauber, Eileen Pickett, and Velma Moe; one sister-in-law, Ruth Loring. She was the proud aunt of 45 nieces and nephews, and many great nieces and nephews, all of whom she dearly loved. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Loretta Heins, Dorothy Griffith, and Marilyn Moore; three brothers, Guerdon, Clifford (Pete), and Frank Loring; plus brothers-in-law John Griffith, Guerdon Heins, Raymond Pickett, Wesley Moe and Kenneth Moore.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 1, 2013, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 404 East Main Street, with Msgr. Kevin Holmes presiding. Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 31, 2013, at the Ryan Funeral Home, 2418 North Sherman Avenue, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., visitation will also be held at the church one hour prior to the Mass. Burial will follow later in Calvary Cemetery, Platteville, Wisconsin.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Schoenstatt Movement, 5901 Cottage Grove Road, Madison, 53718, or St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
