Chopped winner speaks at Madison Catholic Woman’s Club Spring Celebration

On April 18, 2019
Kevin Wondrash

MADISON — The Madison Catholic Woman’s Club (MCWC) will be celebrating another year of religious, charitable, and civic activities on Monday, May 6, at a 12 noon luncheon at Blackhawk Country Club, 3606 Blackhawk Dr., Madison.

Sr. Alicia Torres, Franciscans of the Eucharist of Chicago, and winner on the television cooking show Chopped, will speak of her ministry at the Mission of Our Lady of Angels in Chicago’s Humboldt Park area, where she puts her culinary skills to work preparing meals for the community.

By outlasting three other soup kitchen cooks on Chopped, Sister Alicia was crowned the winner and earned a $10,000 prize to aid her ministry with people who face the reality of hunger, poverty, and violence each day.

Other highlights of the Spring Celebration will include announcement and presentation of the Christian Achievement Award for 2019, acknowledgment of new club members, and donations of cash and in-kind goods to local charitable organizations.

All women of the Diocese of Madison and their guests are invited to attend the Spring Celebration.

Reservations of $24 per person made payable to MCWC should be mailed to Judy Theobald, 5 Huegel Ct., Madison, WI 53719 (608-271-3859) and received by her by Tuesday, April 30. Include a phone number and names of guests with the reservation.

More information about MCWC activities and membership may be found at www.madisoncatholicwomansclub.org The facility is barrier free.
