Sister Marie Sarah Dineen, OP, dies

SINSINAWA — Dominican Sister Marie Sarah Dineen died August 9, 2010, at the Dominican Motherhouse, Sinsinawa. The funeral Mass was held in Queen of the Rosary Chapel at Sinsinawa on August 13, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.

Sister Marie Sarah made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican August 5, 1948, and her final profession August 5, 1951. She taught for 24 years and served as principal for four years and assistant principal for five years. Four of those years she served as both assistant principal and teacher. Sister Marie Sarah ministered for 13 years as director of teacher education at the college level, served as a high school registrar and aide in the Learning Center for five years, and volunteered for 13 years as record keeper. She served in Illinois, Wisconsin and New York.

In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Marie Sarah taught at Edgewood Campus School, Madison, 1952-1967, and served as the director of teacher education at Edgewood College, Madison, 1972-1985.

Sister Marie Sarah was born March 27, 1927, in Milwaukee, the daughter of Cornelius and Margaret (Stapleton) Dineen. Her parents; a sister, Mary Margaret Malaney; and two brothers, James Dineen and William Dineen, preceded her in death. She is survived by a sister, Patricia Foley; nieces; nephews; and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared life for 62 years.
