St. Ambrose Academy offers three pro-life scholarships

On April 10, 2014
Kevin Wondrash

MADISON — Three pro-life volunteers in need of financial assistance will be awarded partial scholarships to study at St. Ambrose Academy this fall, the school announced.

In his first encyclical, Evangelli Gaudium, Pope Francis observed that the “defense of unborn life is closely linked to the defense of each and every other human right. It involves the conviction that a human being is always sacred and inviolable, in any situation and at every stage of development.”

Anonymous benefactors are offering two quarter-scholarships and one half-scholarship (full tuition is $5,650) to students in need of assistance who participate in pro-life activities.

Students at St. Ambrose Academy, a classical, grades six-to-12 Catholic school located on Madison’s west side, have many opportunities to give witness to the sacredness of human life. Every other year high school juniors and seniors travel to Washington, D.C., for the March for Life.

The student-led Guardians for Life group participates in pro-life activities on a local level, such as prayer vigils for the unborn, assisting at local crisis pregnancy centers, and collecting diaper donations for new mothers. Students study the Catechism of the Catholic Church, as well as papal encyclicals like Humanae Vitae, and have regular access to Mass and the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

The scholarships are available to new or continuing students entering in any grade. Applicants should submit a letter of recommendation from an adult non-family member, which addresses the applicant’s pro-life volunteer efforts. Applicants also need to submit an essay relating a mystery of the Rosary to the protection of innocent human life from conception to natural death in 250 to 500 words.

Applications should be submitted to [email protected]

For additional information contact the school secretary at 608-827-5863. The application deadline is May 1, 2014.
