
Sister Irene Daniels, who lived her religious vocation as a teacher and principal, died at Our Lady of the Angels in Greenfield, Wisconsin, on February 4, 2025. Sister Irene was 95 years old.
Sister Irene was born on November 25, 1933, in Athens, Wisconsin. She was received into the School Sisters of St. Francis on June 13, 1946; made her first profession of vows on June 21, 1949; and final (perpetual) vows on June 21, 1954.
Sister is survived by her brothers Norbert Daniels of Athens, John (Shirley) Daniels of Athens, and the Rev. Larry Daniels, OCD, serving in Nairobi, Kenya; her sisters Mary (Daniel) Writz of Abbottsford, Wisconsin, Patricia Luellwitz of Colgate, Wisconsin, and Elizabeth Socha of Athens; many more relatives and friends; and by the School Sisters of St. Francis with whom she shared life for 79 years.
Beginning in 1948, Sister Irene ministered in Wisconsin and Illinois. In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Irene served as a teacher at Immaculate Conception School in Kieler (1962-1964) and as teacher and principal at St. John the Baptist School in Princeton (1969-1973).
In retirement, Sister volunteered and ministered through her prayer and presence at St. Joseph Convent in Milwaukee (2003-2015) and at Our Lady of the Angels from 2015 until her death.
A funeral Liturgy was held on February 17 at St. Joseph Hall in Milwaukee, followed by a burial service at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Milwaukee.
