SINSINAWA — Sister Carla Sonnenberg, OP, died Sept. 21, 2020, at St. Dominic Villa, Hazel Green, Wis. The funeral Mass was held at the Dominican motherhouse, Sinsinawa, Sept. 25, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
Sister Carla made her first religious profession as a Dominican Sister of Sinsinawa August 5, 1957, and her perpetual profession August 5, 1960. She spent her life in cheerful, generous service, offering 53 years in support positions in Wisconsin.
In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Carla assisted in the management of the Dominican motherhouse, Sinsinawa, including transportation services, 1957-1983.
Sister Carla was born March 2, 1926, in Wauwatosa, Wis., the daughter of Charles and Loretta (Savage) Sonnenberg. Her parents; a sister, Bernice Cantwell; and two brothers, Edward Sonnenberg and James Sonnenberg, preceded her in death. She is survived by nieces, nephews, and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared 63 years of religious life.
