City approves request to expand enrollment at St. Ambrose Academy

On June 3, 2010September 12, 2024
--

MADISON — The City of Madison Plan Commission has approved a request by St. Ambrose Academy to teach as many as 140 students in the education wing of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish at 602 Everglade Dr.

The grades six to 12 classical Catholic middle school and high school, founded in 2003, has been operating in the modern facilities of the west side parish since 2004 under the terms of a conditional use permit which capped enrollment at 60.

“We are very pleased with the Plan Commission’s decision,” said St. Ambrose Academy Principal Scott Schmiesing. “We currently have over 100 children on our active waiting list considering enrollment sometime in the next 11 years, and we hope to exceed an enrollment of 60 this fall. We can now comfortably grow at our current location for at least three to five more years.”

“The generosity of Pastor Msgr. Donn Heiar and the parishioners of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish means so much to us,” said St. Ambrose Academy President David R. J. Stiennon. “It is critical to an education in faith to have frequent access to the Mass and the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

“Moreover, it is a tremendous blessing to our educational mission to have our classrooms just down the hall from Jesus Christ, present in the reserved Blessed Sacrament,” said Stiennon.

St. Ambrose Academy is still accepting applications for enrollment in fall of 2010.

St. Ambrose Academy is a Catholic middle school and high school accredited by the National Association of Private Catholic and Independent Schools (NAPCIS). The school offers a classical education rooted in the Catholic faith.
