Diocesan staff changes announced

On March 24, 2011
Mary C. Uhler, Catholic Herald Staff

MADISON — Bishop Robert C. Morlino has announced several diocesan staff changes effective immediately.

Eric Schiedermayer, executive secretary of the diocesan Office of Evangelization and Catechesis, has been named vice chancellor and director of the Office of Planning for the Diocese of Madison.

Grant Emmel, former director of the Office of Planning, has been named assistant to the Office of the Vicar General for special projects.

Patrick Delaney, associate director of the Office of Evangelization and Catechesis, has been named acting director of the Office of Evangelization and Catechesis.

“Thank you to all those involved for their service in their prior positions and we look forward to their continuing service during this period of restructuring and transition into their new positions,” said the announcement of the restructuring.

In a message to those involved in the diocesan planning process, called “Trusting in the Spirit,” Schiedermayer said, “Leadership changes always provide an opportunity to reassess specific programs; however, no major changes to the scope of work of the Office of Planning are foreseen at this time.

“While Grant Emmel will be providing direct assistance to the Office of Planning, it takes time to do good planning, so some projects may move at a slightly slower speed. We ask for your patience and your feedback if you have any special needs or questions.”

Schiedermayer has worked in the Office of Evangelization and Catechesis since October of 2005. Prior to coming to the Diocese of Madison, he served as executive director of the Montana Catholic Conference and was director of communications for the Diocese of Helena, Mont.

Emmel has worked with the Diocese of Madison since 2005, including as executive assistant to the bishop, vice-chancellor, and director of the Office of Planning..

Delaney has been associate director of the Office of Evangelization and Catechesis since 2007. He has primary responsibility for catechist formation and has been involved in the development of the Seat of Wisdom Diocesan Institute.
