Christian girls and abortion

When Mother Teresa visited New Bedford, Mass., in June 1995, she told those of us gathered at St. Lawrence Martyr Church: “Abortion is the greatest evil of today.”

Never one to mince words, Mother Teresa’s courage, truthfulness, and charity were palpable. Parents today need similar fortitude, honesty, and love to be able to discuss the hard topic of unplanned pregnancies and abortion with their children.

Parents exercise influence

Parental input and advice are critical when these situations arise. Even as children profess independence, parents exercise influence over them, whether for good or for ill.

Unplanned — a transforming movie

MADISON — When you hear the word “abortion”, does your mind shut down, not wanting to face discomfort, uncertainty, confusion about what is right and what is wrong?

Do you believe abortion is a woman’s right? You are not alone.

Has your life been touched by abortion . . . as the mother, father, grandparent, or relative? You are not alone.

Spreading the Gospel of life is our mission

This week, we once again commemorate the sad anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court decision in 1973 which legalized abortion throughout our country.

Since then, millions and millions of human lives have been legally snuffed out in the very beginning of their existence without the chance of making their contribution to the world or knowing the wonder of our human experience.

Last year globally, 41 million abortions occurred. These numbers are staggering when we compare them to any other human tragedy which destroys lives.

Respect Life Team invites people to view movie Unplanned at Madison parish

To the editor:

As Catholics, we understand our Church has long been a voice for the voiceless — especially innocent unborn babies. Yet many view pro-life work as “too controversial” or simply uncomfortable.

I understand. Abortion should make us all uncomfortable because of what it does to women, babies, and all involved in the act, including those who work inside the abortion clinics.

We’re called to build civilization of love and life

We congratulate and rejoice with Deacons Timothy Mergen and Enan Zelinski, who were ordained last week in St. Peter’s Basilica and will be ordained priests here next June for the Diocese of Madison.

These men, so representative of all our seminarians, are prayerful, holy, committed, and zealous in living out the Gospel of Christ and shepherding His holy people. Our prayers and gratitude go to these inspiring servants of the Lord, as well as to their parents, families, and friends.

40 Days for Life campaign to build on successes in Madison

MADISON — “On September 25, the highly successful 40 Days for Life campaign returns to Madison with 40 days of prayer and fasting, peaceful vigil, and community outreach,” said Gwen Finnegan, who is coordinating the local campaign.

“We pray that these efforts will help mark the beginning of the end of abortion in Madison.”

Finnegan said, “We know 40 Days for Life has made a difference here. Our witnesses for LIFE have made extraordinary sacrifices to expose the abortion industry and to protect children and their mothers from abortion.”

Join pro-lifers at prayer vigil

Perhaps you’ve seen the movie Unplanned and want to know what to do next.

One suggestion is to join pro-lifers from coast to coast in a solemn prayer vigil at Planned Parenthood facilities to pray for an end to abortion.

Important Wisconsin Supreme Court election to be held on April 2

To the editor:

There will be an election on April 2 in which Wisconsinites will choose a new member of the Wisconsin Supreme Court. Of the two candidates, there is only one who has respect for the God-given and constitutional right to life at all stages, and the right to worship without persecution.

As most people know, abortion advocates in many states are quickly moving to have abortion legal until after the birth of the child — that is infanticide! Cases have occurred where babies born alive due to a failed abortion are denied basic care and left to die.
