Society of St. Vincent de Paul urges ‘Recycle the Warmth’ for people in need

MADISON — On a cold night, not much beats a warm blanket.

Each year, thousands of generous donors search their linen closets, wallets, and hearts to supply the Society of St. Vincent de Paul with new and gently used blankets for Dane County people facing hard times.

The society’s “Recycle the Warmth” Blanket Drive, held on the last full weekend in January, will offer the community its 23rd annual opportunity to offer such comfort for local households in need.

The society’s blanket drive annually collects donations of several thousand new and gently used blankets, as well as other bedding, that St. Vincent de Paul then gives away all year long to low-income households lacking these items.

Pregnancy Helpline promotes diaper collection

MADISON — Through the effort of Pregnancy Helpline of Madison and the National Diaper Bank Network, the week of September 8 to 14 has been proclaimed Diaper Need Awareness Week in Wisconsin as a result of the great amount of needed support.

People are encouraged to aid this critical issue by donating funds or diapers during Diaper Need Awareness Week. Diapers can be dropped off at three Madison Shopko stores September 8 to 14. Diapers can also be brought to the Lil Badger Consignment Sale in Monona September 11 to 13.

Thanks for outpouring of support for new hospital

To the editor:

On Sunday, March 18, approximately 6,000 area residents joined us in celebrating the opening of the new Monroe Clinic Hospital. It was an exciting day for our staff who also came out in full force to welcome the community and tour them through the new facility.

We are touched by the outpouring of support we have experienced through the grand opening events over the past week, and we want to take a moment to say thanks. We’d like to start by thanking the community for their personal interest and kind words during the open house and throughout the entire construction process.
