Sherman Ave., Madison.MADISON — The Madison St. Vincent de Paul Youth Service Council (YSC) has developed a unique scholarship program — one that contributes $1,000 to further education or training for a graduating student eligible to receive free/reduced lunch. It also supports the student’s family via rent credit and grocery store gift cards.
“After participating in a poverty simulation, YSC members realized the importance of supporting the student’s family, too,” explained Gayle Westfahl, advisor of the group.
“Removing the student from the household to focus on school might mean the family does not have the student’s income to help with bills nor their assistance with caring for siblings or older relatives. WAUNAKEE — St. John’s Piecemakers Quilt Club of Waunakee will hosts its 16th annual “Quilting through the Ages” quilt show on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 28 and 29, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at St. John School gym, 114 E. Third St.
Among the many quilts displayed will be an applique quilt exhibit by Alice Schutz along with quilts that will be donated to local charities.
There will be a silent auction and a quilt sale benefitting the Waunakee Food Pantry. Luncheon will be served by the Ashton Go-Getters 4-H Club.
BLOOMINGTON — Members of St. Mary Parish in Bloomington and residents of the surrounding area will present their third annual Variety Show.
“Down Home Fun” is the theme of this year’s performances which will be performed at St. Mary School gym, 531 Congress St., on Sunday, March 20, beginning at 1 p.m. The doors will open at 12 noon.
