Difference between lives lost in abortion and war

On October 23, 2008August 31, 2023
Jill Yanke

To the editor:

In Mr. Lins letter (Mailbag, October 9, 2008), he stated that “Respecting life should include lives lost in wars.” No one, liberal or conservative, wants to see any human life lost, but comparing lives lost in wars in Afghanistan and Iraq to the 4,000 lives ended by abortion every single day in our country alone is ridiculous!

There is a difference between innocent lives lost to abortion and the loss of lives of soldiers who are heroically placing themselves in harm’s way to stand up for justice and freedom.

It would be wonderful if one party would offer us a 100 percent consistent effort on behalf of life, but since we don’t have that option, we need to look at the most basic issue — the right to life. The issue of abortion is intrinsically evil and must never be allowed by government, while war can be justified.
