To the editor:
In writing about Pope Francis’ opinions of climate change, the writer in the December 15 issue of the Catholic Herald quoted the importance and opportunity of “stewardship of our earth in human solidarity.”
Not once in the article is there a reference to conserving LIFE. Other quotes in the article are also vague. “Avert deterioration by human activity.” “Outstanding academic and research institutions make a vital contribution in the years ahead.” “Scientist work free of political, economic, or ideological interests.” They must “build a cultural model to confront the challenge of climate change.”
In other articles I’ve read, the pope references war, crime, abortion, and euthanasia as infractions of climate change.
Government in charge of this results in winners and losers. We ALL share a responsibility to make our communities a better place for ALL to LIVE.
Pope Francis says (in the article on December 15), “Redirect our steps to avert the most serious effects of the environmental deterioration caused by human activity.” This is also vague and confusing. This sounds like getting rid of humans would fix climate?
“Climate change deniers” have a legitimate argument. Some scientists’ ideas are consistent with the deniers. Practice common sense. First, conserve lives. Second, conserve the environment. For whom are we saving the environment if not for the LIVING?
