The Catholic Diocese of Madison Foundation grows, serves

MADISON — People throughout the Diocese of Madison have been hearing much in recent months about the Priests for Our Future Campaign, which seeks to raise $30 million for the education and formation of seminarians.

The funds raised in the Priests for Our Future Campaign are being housed in The Catholic Diocese of Madison Foundation (CDMF), which was incorporated in 2006 to serve parishes, schools, and parish members in the Diocese of Madison.

The thrift store is at 1110 W. Main St.

Permanent deacons to wear clerical attire when ministering

MADISON — In an effort to help permanent deacons in the Diocese of Madison become more easily identified as they minister, Bishop Robert C. Morlino has given permission that all permanent deacons in the diocese will be permitted to wear a grey clerical shirt and white collar when actively engaged in diaconal ministry.

The permission is effective January 23.

What will you do for preborn babies?

To the editor:

Describe, if you can, how you would feel holding a baby that was scheduled to be deliberately killed?

I’ve been blessed to have held many babies: ill, injured, battered, healthy, and the homeless. But beyond description is holding a baby who was scheduled to be killed via abortion or seeing their photo.

Bishop dedicates new Adoration chapel in Sauk City

Incense rises in the air as Fr. John Blewett, pastor, incenses the altar in the Adoration chapel altar of the new Mary, Mother of God Chapel at St. Aloysius Church at Divine Mercy Parish in Sauk City on January 1. (Photo by Jim DeSchepper)

SAUK CITY — Bringing in the new year was a very special occasion at Divine Mercy Parish in Sauk City, where Bishop Robert C. Morlino held a dedication Mass and ceremony for the new Mary, Mother of God Adoration Chapel on January 1, fittingly the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God.

“Let Us Go Rejoicing to the House of the Lord” was the processional hymn sung as the bishop, Divine Mercy Pastor Fr. John Blewett, and Mass servers entered the chapel for the dedication.

Parishioners persevere

It was no small task getting to this day, but the perseverance and faith of many parishioners who have helped keep a successful Eucharistic Adoration (EA) program going for over 12 years at St. Aloysius Church at Divine Mercy Parish made this day a reality.

Until now, Eucharistic Adoration has been held in the church proper. The “new” chapel is actually a renovated chapel that was “hidden” in the old Sisters convent located between the church and the school, according to Father Blewett.

“It is almost like it was waiting there,” he said, to be discovered and brought out through Divine Providence.

According to Bishop Morlino, a dedication ceremony for an altar or for a church or chapel is somewhat like a consecration ceremony for a new priest: it is preparing a temple to be worthy of the sacrifice of Christ in the Eucharist, he said.

Bishop Morlino blessed Cristobal Padilla, a candidate for Holy Orders at the beginning of the dedication Mass to symbolize the similarity in the rites.

Thanks for work of volunteers who erected Nativity display at State Capitol

To the editor:

Thanks to Sr. Therese Wolf, FSPA, who receives the Catholic Herald and shares it with me, I keep abreast of the Madison area events.

I was delighted to read that the Nativity scene is now displayed at our State Capitol! Thank you, Geralyn Ketterman, a staunch pro-lifer with whom I’ve many memories of praying/witnesssing at the “former” Rockford Abortion Mill, distributing literature and many other human life promoting activities.

How a Catholic should live is the key issue

To the editor:

I’d like to add a few observations to Fr. Robert Barron’s column, “It doesn’t matter what you believe . . .” (Catholic Herald, December 4 issue). He reports that “88 percent of those surveyed said ‘how a person lives is more important than whether he or she is a Catholic.’”

However, if the respondents had been asked, “How should a Catholic live?” the answers would not have been cavalier at all.

Document on Religious is ‘sugar-coated’

To the editor:

I praise the document of the Congregation for Religious in Rome, released as a final report of the visitation of women’s religious congregations in the U.S.

I am not known for sugarcoating grave problems within Religious life — but kindness is the only way to go for the Church’s pastors. Some Religious congregations aren’t only on a demographic cliff, but teetering on the edge in terms of ecclesial communion, as the document alludes.
