SUN PRAIRIE — For the seventh year, Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary School in Sun Prairie held a personal care drive to help fill a local food pantry’s need for those items.

This year, students were asked to “Cram the Cart” in the school entryway with items such as deodorant, toothpaste, shampoo, diapers, laundry detergent, dish soap, and other personal care items.

By the last day of the drive, the large cart was overflowing, with bags and boxes surrounding it.

Sixth grade teacher Stephanie Schoenberger, who coordinates the drive every year, had her classes make posters and collect donations from other classrooms throughout October and November.

On November 27, those students filled the truck as Mark Thompson of the Sunshine Place came to collect the personal care items. Thompson was overwhelmed and very appreciative, telling the students what a difference the families of Sacred Hearts were making in the community.

In total, the students loaded 1,048 pounds of personal care items.
