Creation stems from God’s nature of three persons

To the editor:

Atheists and their associates in the scientific community have lately garnered considerable publicity.

Stephen Hawking, the famed British cosmologist, is the latest entry. When believers try to rebut them by asserting that God created the universe, they often leave the impression that God is a solitary individual who arbitrarily made something out of nothing.

Bishop Bullock expresses gratitude for 30th anniversary celebration

To the editor:

Please accept my thanks for your beautiful coverage of the Mass of Thanksgiving on the occasion of the 30th Anniversary of my Ordination as a Bishop on August 12, 2010.

I would first like to thank Bishop Morlino, Bishop of Madison, for inviting me to celebrate my 30 years as Bishop and hosting the Mass and Dinner in my honor. I am especially grateful to my fellow priests who came in such large numbers to concelebrate with me.

Dropping bombs was seen as necessary to end the war

To the editor:

I am writing in response to the article “Remembering the destruction” written by Tony Magliano in the August 19 issue of the Catholic Herald.

First, I want to preface my remarks by saying I am a proud son of a World War II veteran (my father), who “passed away” two years ago. My father was one of many soldiers (many of whom were still teenagers) stationed in the Philippines waiting for the order to attack Japan.

Their parents (my grandparents) were nervously waiting at home, not knowing whether their children were alive or dead. Many had bought burial plots because they were preparing for the worst.

Candidate’s record shows extreme views on abortion

To the editor:

As someone with a strong respect for the sanctity of human life, I am deeply disturbed by the radically pro-abortion views of gubernatorial candidate Tom Barrett.

Barrett’s record clearly illustrates his extreme views on abortion. He has supported taxpayer funding of abortion and opposed parental notification laws.

Article lacked information of use to senior citizens with hearing impairment

To the editor:

Lisa Petsche’s informative article “Considering a move? First explore the variety” (Catholic Herald, July 22, 2010) lacked information of use to senior citizens with hearing impairment.

Hearing impairment is the most common disability in senior citizens. Senior citizens who are searching for retirement housing should know that there are various “gadgets” that can offer greater safety and comfort and enhance their social life.

Partial-birth abortion debate reveals senator’s views

To the editor:

It was September of 1996 when one of the most discussed and dramatic exchanges took place on the floor of the U.S. Senate. The Senate was debating a ban on partial-birth abortions.

Senator Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania asked Senator Russ Feingold of Wisconsin a direct question: What if there was a mistake and the baby about to be killed was fully born? What should happen to the live baby? Senator Feingold responded that it was still up to the mother and her doctor to decide.

Catholic Church should address immigration issues

To the editor:

In reference to the article on Hispanic ministry (Catholic Herald,  July 29, 2010),  does the Church address the issue of legal citizenship? Wouldn’t it be wonderful if the Catholic Church could begin to solve the immigration controversy in the country by issuing some common sense policies to start the process of citizenship for these people? The majority of Americans merely want these people to be loyal to this country, not to Mexico.

Concerned about federal government spending

To the editor:

The federal government continues to recklessly squander away our tax dollars, leaving future generations to pick up the tab for the irresponsible spending of today. This is infuriating! Our hard-earned money is treated with contempt, and I am very concerned that this practice is leading to the death of the greatest economic system in the history of the world.

Vice President Joe Biden said that to avoid bankruptcy the government must spend MORE money! What is he thinking?! Sadly, this view seems to be shared by a majority of our elected officials.

Prayer for 2010 graduates

I have a prayer for all the graduates of 2010:

Put your trust in our Lord and Savior; Jesus is his name. He will never fail you, he will never let you down, his strength will hold you up.
