Catholic Daughters of the Americas

On May 3, 2012
M. Susan Hicks, For the Catholic Herald

MONROE — Are you looking for a way to help the less fortunate in your community? Or are you considering how to take an active role in your parish community, state, or nation? Are you wondering how you can help people or your community cope with a tragedy?

The Catholic Daughters of the Americas (CDA) help others by building homes for the less fortunate through “Habitat for Humanity,” fighting pornography, supporting religious, fighting abortion and euthanasia, helping disaster relief efforts, and much more.

The Catholic Daughters of the Americas is one of the largest Catholic women’s organizations in the world. Founded in 1903 by the Knights of Columbus, the organization has flourished under the motto of “Unity and Charity.”

Currently approximately 83,000 Catholic women are members. With the guidance of the Blessed Mother as their patron, Catholic Daughters is a group of “God’s Active Angels” reaching out to others with helping hands, having a good time, gaining new friends, and offering help and understanding to all.

Membership in the Catholic Daughters of the Americas organization is possible for women over 18, girls six to 17, and ladies attending college. Any woman of the Catholic faith who wishes to belong to CDA is welcome to join.

Girls six to 17 years of age can join JCDA in an area where the adult CDA court is established, and ladies attending college may join their campus court if one is established.

Joining the Catholic Daughters of the Americas is a wonderful gift from God. Through CDA you are able to share your talents and gifts. As a member of CDA you are able to work with other Catholic women who share like values.

The current membership theme is “CDA: God’s Active Angels.” Our membership enriches our spiritual, social, and missionary life through our Circle of Love Program.

If you are interested is establishing a court in your parish community, 15 members are required to begin. For information on current courts or to start a court in your community, contact the [email protected] or 608-851-9137 or view the national Web site at www.catholicdaughters.org

A one-hour presentation about the Catholic Daughters of the Americas may be provided by contacting M. Susan Hicks, state regent, at Edelweiss Estates, N2607 Carnie Rd., Monroe, WI 53566; 608-851-9137; or e-mail [email protected]
