Students in Jefferson learn about icons

JEFFERSON — Seventh and eighth graders at St. John the Baptist (SJB) School in Jefferson were recently able to catch a glimpse of heaven thanks to the work of Madison-based iconographer, Drazen Dupor.

Students had been studying religious icons in religion classes. In collaboration with art teacher Sally Koehler and with the support of the SJB Home and School Association, students began their first steps on the journey to understanding and appreciating this cherished liturgical art form.

Bishop to celebrate White Mass on November 23

MADISON — Bishop Robert C. Morlino will celebrate the annual White Mass at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23, at St. Patrick Church in Madison.

Members of the Madison Guild of the Catholic Medical Association (CMA) will be attending the Mass with the bishop, asking God’s blessing upon doctors, nurses, caregivers, and patients under the patronage of St. Luke.

All those involved in the medical profession are invited to join Bishop Morlino for this “White Mass,” so named from the traditional color of lab coats and nurses’ uniforms.

Students learn positive behaviors in Cross Plains

CROSS PLAINS — St. Francis Xavier School students in all grades (K4 through eight) are taking part in a year-long, school-wide program focused on putting positive actions and behaviors into practice.

Each month teachers develop lesson plans and activities around a specific character trait and will create opportunities for students to be living models of Christ.

The program is being organized by second grade teacher Ms. Jennifer Eicher. Eicher explains that the goal behind the school-wide program is to create an environment where all students, faculty, staff, and parents are active participants in the growth and development of each child within school community.

St. Ann Parish to hold Holiday Gift Fair

STOUGHTON — St. Ann Parish will hold a Holiday Gift Fair at St. Ann School, 324 N. Harrison St., on Saturday, Nov. 9, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 10, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Proceeds will help defray expenses for parish youth events.

Over 30 vendors will be present at the Gift Fair, including local artists with African straw baskets, honey and related products, dream catchers, wine bottle decorations, evergreen wreaths and ropes, rolled paper art, wooden Christian trivets, birdhouse gourds, jewelry, quilted/knit/crochet and sewn items, jar mixes and gift baskets, homemade pet treats and dog collars, and more.

St. John’s Piecemakers quilt show to be held in Waunakee

WAUNAKEE — St. John’s Piecemakers Quilt Club of Waunakee will host their 13th annual Quilting Through the Ages quilt show on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 25 and 26, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at St. John School gym, 114 E. Third St.

More than 150 quilts will be displayed along with quilts that will be donated to local charities. A silent auction and quilt sale benefiting the Waunakee Food Pantry will be held. Luncheon items will be served by the Ashton Go-Getters 4-H Club.

St. Mary of the Lake to hold Country Fair

WESTPORT — St. Mary of the Lake Parish, 5460 Mary Lake Rd., off Hwy. M, will hold its 52nd annual Country Fair on Sunday, Oct. 27, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A roast beef dinner starts at 11 a.m., and a “Holiday Shopper’s Delight” features the kick-off sale of St. Mary’s famous fruitcakes.

There will also be arts and crafts, resale gifts, raffle baskets, and a silent auction, along with a bake sale and other refreshments. Attendees will also be able to enjoy autumn in the pumpkin patch and outdoor flea market.

MADISON — High school students are invited to fall into service with St. Vincent de Paul (SVDP).

Join the St. Vincent de Paul Youth Service Group this fall to show others the love of Christ through action.
