Bloomington parish to hold dinner and variety show

On March 27, 2014
Jim Warczak, For the Catholic Herald

BLOOMINGTON — For 25 years, people in Bloomington and the surrounding areas looked forward to forgetting their problems and getting rid of the “winter blues” by attending the St. Mary’s Parish Players’ hilarious comedy productions.

Because of the enormous amount of time involved in producing a play, the Players decided it was time to retire — but not completely.

The Players and many others from the community will be sharing their talents at a variety show, which will be held in conjunction with a roast beef dinner.

Roast beef dinner

All are invited to attend the roast beef dinner from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the St. Mary Church dining hall, 527 W Jackson St., on Sunday, March 30, after a 10 a.m. Mass. The usual Sunday morning Mass has been changed from 9:15 a.m. to 10 a.m. so people can attend the dinner right after Mass.

The dinner will feature delicious Ma’s Bakery roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, green bean casserole, coleslaw, dessert, and a beverage. Hot dogs will also be available for children.

Variety Show

The “Chasing Away the Winter Blues” Variety Show will begin at 1 p.m. in St. Mary School gym. This will be a fun, laughter-filled show for people of all ages.

Performers include: the St. Mary’s Parish Players, the River Ridge Dance Teams, St. Mary School faculty’s Sister Act, “Are You Smarter Than a Kindergartener?,” plus skits, music, and dance selections by many others.

This is only a partial list as more individuals and groups are expressing an interest in performing as the show draws nearer.

In addition to door prizes, there will be a Pauline Press Religious Book Fair and a photography display by the True Lives Studio.

The proceeds from the dinner and the variety show will help St. Mary School in Bloomington.
