St. Ambrose Academy Faculty Lecture Series resumes with all new topics for 2013-14

MADISON — Inspired by the words of St. Matthew’s Gospel, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your

Father who is in heaven,” St. Ambrose Academy is once again highlighting the expertise of faculty this year with another Faculty Lecture Series, all new for 2013-14.

These lectures, which are free and open to the public, provide an opportunity for community members to consider an interesting topic, learn something new, and grow in the faith.

First up, on the evening of Thursday, Sept. 26, is St. Ambrose Dean of Students Gina Pignotti, who recently completed her Master’s degree in educational administration at the University of Notre Dame.

Pignotti also holds an honors degree from the UW-Madison School of Education. She was the recipient of the 2011 Harrington Award given by St. Paul’s University Catholic Center for admirable achievement by an alumna.

“Ms. P.,” as she is affectionately known at St. Ambrose, will speak on her analysis of Catholic education as a shared responsibility among Catholic families, educators, and the lay faithful, who all have key roles in educating young people.

Pignotti will present an overview of the Church’s teaching on Catholic schools, from when the Synods of Baltimore mandated a school in every parish to the contemporary writings of the Congregation for Catholic Education.

“In my graduate work at Notre Dame, I spent time poring over the Church documents on Catholic education. Realizing that many people will not have the opportunity to read these extensive writings on Catholic education, I am excited to share the highlights of what I have learned so that we all can understand our role in passing along knowledge to the next generation,” explained Pignotti about her planned remarks.

Pignotti’s presentation entitled “Catholic Education: The Responsibility of All” will take place Thursday, Sept. 26, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the St. Thomas Aquinas Parish social hall, 602 Everglade Dr., Madison. Refreshments will be served.
